What Is Devine Diaries

WHAT IS THE ORIGIN OF

THE DEVINE DIARIES?

In August of 2012, I packed up my belongings and moved into my LA office, subletting my apartment and taking up residence on a slice of floor behind my desk. I was a struggling creative, tired of slaving away at two jobs--with no extra time or money to show for it. It was time to practice my own contemporary version urban voluntary simplicity.

I haven't signed a traditional lease since.

In the years that followed, I saved six figures in rent. The rental market in LA is competitive, inflated. Renters get far less than what they pay for. Instead, I've lived everywhere from my office to my customized truck-home, to a porta potty tiny home on an off-grid backyard budding micro food forest in LA.

And I did all this without giving up an otherwise vibrant urban, young(ish) professional(ish) existence.

The Devine Diaries was created on the heels of that lifestyle shift. It started as a hub for the collection of my stories--and a few stories from others along the way--told in written and video format. From my office living days to my sustainable tiny home ones.

It has become a hub for all of my creative (and socially entrepreneurial) work.

While stories related to the tiny living movement are well publicized--and, thanks to shows like Tiny House Nation, even played out--much of them pertain to ejecting from the hustle. Precious few fuse unorthodox housing choices with the verve to make an impact in this world.

The Devine Diaries exists to show tiny, intentional living through that lens.

Links to my written and visual journals can be found throughout the site.

I'm currently most active on my @devine_diaries Instagram page. A bulk of my original writing can be found on The Office Hobo site, and my videos advocating for tiny living live on the TK Devine YouTube page. My film work is chronicled here, on my FILMS page.
